TGS team MEMBER SINCE NOVEMBER 2019

Meet Lizz Rene.

The daughter of immigrants, Lizz Rene is a proud first-generation college graduate and founder of PO’ UP! Card Game. Inspired by her experiences as an undergrad at the University of Georgia and as an alumna, Lizz created PO’ UP!, a card game to celebrate the experiences of Black students and alumni representing HBCUs (Historically Black colleges and Universities) and PWIs (Predominantly White Institutions).

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT TGS?

I love that TGS has a presence across the U.S. Whether I’m in DC, Atlanta or LA, I have a home base to connect with members with a shared interest in celebrating Black Excellence.

What ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’D SHARE WITH YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

One piece of advice I’d share with my younger self is to stop striving for perfection. Rather than trying to achieve something that will never be humanly possible, focus on being the best version of yourself that makes you happy. Don’t do anything for anyone else.

WHAT‘S ONE HIDDEN TALENT OR SKILL THAT YOU POSSESS THAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW?

People might not know that I own nearly 30 Black-owned games and have unofficially become a collector.

What is your favorite quote or mantra?

Well behaved women seldom make history.
