Meet Emily Hawkins.
Emily Hawkins is a communications maven with more than 15 years of experience within the technology, retail, beauty, fashion, entertainment, performing arts, non-profit, sports, community engagement, and social responsibility arenas.
At Amazon, Emily manages strategic external communications and community relations for the company’s DMV operations.
As Director of Media Relations for Macy’s, Ms. Hawkins drove positive coverage of the company’s new and innovative capabilities, customer engagement practices, product launches, store openings, cause marketing campaigns, in-store events, corporate giving, diversity, and inclusion efforts, and unique sponsorships and partnerships.
Prior to Macy’s, Emily worked with the preeminent American cultural ambassador to the world, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and New York’s leading residential real estate firm, Corcoran Group.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT TGS?
In June, I relocated to DC after nearly 20 years in New York City. Living in the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic took a toll on my spirit and I was in dire need of a lifestyle change. When I got settled in DC, I kept hearing friends talk about TGS and how great it was. In September, I attended an Amazon Black Employee Network event at TGS and immediately knew I wanted to be part of the special community. In less than two months of being a member, TGS has helped me find my DC tribe and has served as a place of belonging and safety for me. There is so much to love about TGS – from the event programming to the welcoming staff and priceless connections made with other members.
When You Were A Child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a professional dancer with Alvin Ailey and a Broadway performer. I also aspired to become a broadcast journalist.
What Is One Piece of advice you would share with your younger self?
Never shrink and always advocate for yourself.
