TGS HTX MEMBER SINCE 2021

Meet Danielle Houston.

Danielle joined Gilead Sciences in March 2017. Her success as an HIV Community Liaison can be attributed to her ability to effectively work as a bridge between Gilead, strategic partners, and local organizations to improve health outcomes across the continuum. She is adept at translating social issues, research, and clinical information simply and scientifically to the benefit of invigorating health literacy and self-efficacy in HIV-vulnerable communities.

Before joining Gilead, Danielle was a panel member of the DHHS ART Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents. As the Senior Program Manager of NMAC’s Treatment Division, she oversaw all aspects of content development and execution for the first National HIV PrEP Summit. And along with managing all divisional capacity building programs, she created and executed an innovative program, Strong Communities, to increase the capacity of community-based organizations and community health centers to combat HIV and related conditions in populations and regions hardest hit by the HIV epidemic.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Boston University and earned a Master of Science in Public Health in Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Her graduate work focused on the epidemiology emerging and established infectious diseases. She’s originally from Houston, TX and lives with her adorable 15-pound terrier mix, Ginger.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT TGS?

It’s hard to meet people outside of work and even harder to know what’s going on in the city. TGS makes this easy by curating experiences and a diverse community of motivated people.

WHAT ACCOMPLISHMENT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

In 2021, I received every honor and distinction awarded by my business unit: 1) Community Impact Award, 2) Key Contributor Award, 3) Promoted from Senior to Executive Community Liaison, and 4) President’s Club.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?

Whenever somethings makes me anxious or afraid, I acknowledge that I just reached the edge of my comfort zone. It motivates me to do it because no matter the outcome, on the other side of the experience is growth.

WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’d share with your younger self?

Know the difference between something that hurts you and something that was done to hurt you.
