TGS ATL MEMBER SINCE 2020

Meet Abdul Diallo.

Abdul was born in Dakar, Senegal in a family of 7 kids total. He first came to the US in summer 2015 for a work and travel program in Grand Canyon, AZ for 5 months. That was his first time meeting and working with international students from different continents. The experience was so great that he decided to return to Senegal to finish a networking and database management program he started before officially moving to Atlanta in Spring 2017 to pursue a CS degree at GSU.

Abdul graduated in 2020 and started working as a software mobile engineer at Ford for a year, then transitioned to Kaiser Permanente. He enjoys building robust mobile apps from ideation all the way to shipping and maintenance.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT TGS?

It’s resourcefulness. Anytime I come to the club, I meet vibrant and dynamic people sharing ideas, events to attend and network, great interviews on TGS Connect… In fact, it’s at the TGS club that Jerome Miller and myself started a venture called Globally Connected.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?

Wealth: To be in a position to take decisions irregardless of costs.

Contribution: Africa has the potential to be self-sufficient and export as much as it can, yet it’s still being fed. E.g., the war between Russia and Ukraine has significantly impacted its food production because it depends on them for fertilizers, grains, etc. Starting a farm can reduce a part of that dependency, thus directly and positively impacting a set of people in Senegal.

What is one piece of advice you’d share with your younger self?

I’d tell my younger self to be patient and break things down into smaller daily tasks. To try to win one day at a time.

what is your favorite quote or mantra?

You can have the support of everyone to get somewhere and you’ll never get there because the destination was never yours to begin with. At the same time, you can have the disdain of everyone trying to block you from going somewhere and because it’s your destination, you’ll eventually get there.
